The World as I See - Programing
Written by Nadeem Al-Shawaf
icon It seems that I liked to program windows mobile applications! It is easy & fast, because these applications are small and one purpose oriented, not like huge PC applications, and maybe they are much useful in everyday life!

Dear All Visitors
Due to major infrastructure changes in Windows Mobile 7, development of this app currently postponed, sorry for disappointment.
I will upload the final beta build soon.

If you are a fun of trying a lot of applications on your windows mobile phone like me, you must said at least once: windows mobile’s “Remove Programs” is sucks! When you have hundreds of applications installed, it will be hard to find a one that you want to remove in an ugly list of applications that all of them start with company name not the name of app itself!

For that I started to search if there is any better application for this job, but I found nothing, this why I made this small application, it is general purpose one alike my previous one, a replacement for “Remove Programs” applet, it doing the same job, but in much nicer way, I hope this app will be useful for you, Happy uninstallation!

mm

Pre-requirements:

  1. Windows Mobile 5 or newer (Please don’t try it on WM2003 or older, they are not supported because they using a different mechanism)
  2. .Net compact framework 3.5, you will find it in the attachments also.

Key Futures:

  1. Shows big Icons of installed applications for easier recognition.
  2. On the fly search in the list of the applications (with 0.5s delay after typing)
  3. Uninstall all applications (it can uninstall even itself!), and removing main registry entry if the application uninstalled incorrectly.

Release History:

29/08/2009 v 1.0
- Initial release.

Important Notes:

  1. This program will modify your system (files & registry), although I tested it on couple devices and it uses safe ways for this modifications, use it on your own RISK!
  2. Current release is kept as simple as possible, but I intend to add more advanced functionality in the future (like registry scanning for badly removed apps)
  3. This application is not fast as much as original “Remove Programs” tool for sure, because it will need to extract Icons of all your programs, so if you have couple hundreds of them, you will have to wait a little bit.

beliceno - TMS Uninstaller problems   |2009-09-03 01:36:49
Nadeem,

Thank you for producing this program, however, I downloaded both the TMS Uninstaller and the .Net compact framework 3.5 but can't figure out how to install either of them on my HP iPaq 110, can you please help me as the TMS program looks like something I have been searching for. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Beliceno
Nadeem   |2009-09-03 17:32:06
Dear Beliceno

Thank you for interesting,
Actually you can't install them directly as they compressed, you need to decompress first them by using Winrar or 7-Zip application, you can easily find them on the internet, after decompressing them you will get the CAB files that you can directly install them on your device .

Kai - Quick Review   |2009-09-03 23:57:20
This is awesome. I would love to see the completed version (with options, and sort by name). CareAce have written a quick review on the article. Check it out here: http://www.careace.net/2009/09/03/tms-uninstaller-improved-way-of-removing-applications/
Admin   |2009-09-04 09:07:40
Thank you Kai

As most people liked this app, i will try to speed up my work with the next release .
Anonymous - :)   |2009-09-06 16:48:19
I am glad about this program

I always wanted something more than the classic WM uninstaller..

Thank you!
Nadeem   |2009-09-06 20:11:42
Thank you :-)

I hope that you will like the next version even more
Anonymous - Uninstall problems with WM6.1   |2009-09-10 22:54:21
Hello, I had an uninstall problem with one programme which could not be removed. I wanted to install a newer version anyway, but always got an error, that uninstall failed and removing that entry was not possible, too. For that reason I thought TMS uninstaller might help. But the problem with WM6.1 is, that removing the entry from registry is not sufficent, with WM6.1 there is also a database entry. See http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/windowsmobile/thread/7bad6dc7-d042-4bc2-8516-c9eeaeb5af58 for more information. Maybe you can include this into your uninstall routines for WM 6.1? Thank you very much!
Nadeem   |2009-09-11 16:05:19
Thank you very much for your detailed commnet.

Unfortunately the link you provided is wrong & MS returns Error Page.

Regarding your point of removing badly removed or installed programs, as i wrote in the notes above, this functionality to be included next version, for now the program is just a simple replacement for original "Remove Programs"

Thank you very much and hope that next version will be better
Jujulianos   |2009-11-05 08:12:14
Yep, that's great.

One ask : please, add the following simple functionnality : extract in a .txt file the list of installed applications.

Interesting to have this kind of file when you are obliged to make an hard reset
Admin - Sorry   |2009-11-05 10:47:29
Oh I'm really sorry i forgot about this one
I will try do add it today , please provide me with your mail to send you a copy for testing...
R   |2009-11-07 11:23:10
Great app, much needed. Saves me from writing one myself :-)

A couple ideas:

* If the slow loading times are because of the icons, give an option to not display icons. I think they're rather useless and certainly aren't worth waiting so long.

* Sort by installation time (not sure if possible, but it probably is). Very helpful, since I usually want to uninstall recently installed programs I've been playing with.
Admin   |2009-11-07 11:34:52
Hi

Thx

regarding Icons, i think they still very useful for a very long list of apps anyway adding option to not generate icons is a good idea

For the sorting, actually some guys are now testing a new beta of the app with couple new futures and one of them is sorting by date (I made a small trick to implement that if you would like to take a shoot on the beta too, please add a comment with non empty email field so i can send you a copy for testing
thx
R   |2009-11-28 01:25:55
Sure, I'd like to try the beta :-)

I've noticed that the entries do seem to be sorted by date :-) Don't know if it was intentional, but it works on my machine

A few more points (sorry if the new version already fixes some of them):

* When the app opens, I'd like it to populate the list automatically. That's why I opened the app, you know... ;-)

* A button to clear the search box (and thus show all program again) would be nice.

* I think there's a small bug: pressing the refresh button while refresh is in progress populates items twice (just a guess- calling DoEvents without disabling the GUI first?)

* The icons for refresh\uninstall are too small for comfort and too close to each other.
Admin - re:   |2009-11-28 14:53:55
Hi & thx for interesting; will send you a new beta once i fix one reported bug...

The new version supports sorting in few ways

Yes right but you may opened it by mistake and you will have to wait till it finishes populating , any way I was planing to include this option, it will be in the next version (not the coming one)

Good Idia, thx, I will add it in this version.

Yes right, I fixed it in this beta.

The problem that they are tied to the same hight as the search box, so I can't change there size, maybe you have suggestion?
Genix9 - Beta   |2009-11-29 11:20:16
Hey Nadeem, great app and extermely useful! Would also be interested in testing the next beta if possible.

Also would like to see the Refresh/Uninstall icons bigger for more finger-friendly working? I see that this has been asked before and layout seems to be the issue - what about a layout similar to Resco Explorer? Resco also checks once at initial startup if the user would prefer touch optimised mode and sets the layout accordingly.
Admin   |2009-11-29 14:59:58
Thx for interesting

I will provide you with a new beta once ready..

Regarding Icons, yes you right about that, currently I'm looking for a good way to solve that, I didn't liked much Resco explorer for doing that, seems to be unprofessional for me...

Can you please provide me with your device screen resolution please?
Genix9 - Beta   |2009-11-29 20:23:44
Sounds good, looking forward to helping if I can The device resoluton is WQVGA, 240x400.
ras   |2009-12-04 15:42:48
A program like this is priceless for a wm phone, THANKS!
Manish Kumar Namdeo - Application Crash   |2009-12-06 15:06:08
Clicking on uninstall button when the search list is empty crashes the application.

What i did was opened the application and without searching anything i clicked on uninstall icon.
Admin   |2009-12-06 15:12:52
Already fixed in the current beta, thanks for reporting.
raouf alshaer   |2010-02-15 16:53:00
Mr. Nadeem,
i have installed the application, it showed only 25 out of 42 applications installed, on the other side in the menue it shows only the Exit and about, no options or sort by name as it is disabled, i am using windows 6.5 on Acer S200.
best regards.
PS shold i try the beta version!!
Admin   |2010-02-16 08:50:38
Hi Raouf

Thx for trying, actually it's strange that most of the programs are not visible, nobody reported that before, if you can provide me with screen shoots of app output and your real list of apps it will be very helpful.

Regarding the disabled buttons, it's ok because they are not functional yet in that version, current beta version is under developing and hope that it will be ready soon.
fardeal - TMS Uninstaller 1.0   |2010-02-17 10:52:50
Hi There.

Im interested in this application. However, when i run it, it shows null reference exception...Could you send me the beta version so that i can test it?Thanks
Thomas - Work nice   |2010-02-17 13:47:19
Using remove tool in my htc touch hdWorks nice
Haggis2009   |2010-04-22 19:40:18
I would be very interested in testing the new Beta. I have a problem with the built in remove programs as it is no longer updating the list of installed programs. I have tried you're current version of uninstaller but get the same error message as xhoxt. If you could email me the Beta and I'll let you know how I get on with it.
toberino - WQVGA   |2010-05-12 20:14:40
So far so good. The only issue I have so far is the populated list does not show full screen. the bottom inch of the screen get cutoff.
http://www.omniamods.com/imagehost/images/28349822120931318551.jpg

Other than that no other issues. It is very responsive and icon size is fine.

I would be interested in the beta for testing.
Admin   |2010-05-13 20:17:42
Thx for your feedback..
Actually I already fixed that in the current beta, but It seems that I will not continue to develop this app. due to the new Windows mobile architecture in version 7 that may make no need to my app.
JT McCully - Beta?   |2010-08-03 20:34:57
Thanks for your work - would like to test beta version.
